Please join ACEC Georgia for a workshop on practical networking skills for engineering professionals led by Coach Lee Hopkins, Social Connections Coach. 


Engineers are trained to solve complex technical problems, yet many are expected to build partnerships, secure opportunities, and develop leadership presence through networking. This session provides a clear, structured approach to turning casual conversations into meaningful professional connections.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Initiate conversations without awkwardness
  • Move from surface-level small talk to purposeful dialogue
  • Identify alignment for partnerships, mentorship, and career growth
  •  Follow up in a way that strengthens long-term professional relationships


The workshop blends practical frameworks, live exercises, and real-world application relevant to conferences, industry events, client meetings, and internal leadership settings.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Confidently start and sustain professional conversations in networking environments
  • Transition small talk into meaningful dialogue that uncovers shared goals and opportunities 
  • Identify potential collaboration, mentorship, and career advancement signals during conversations
  • Use structured follow-up strategies that increase relationship retention and professional visibility
  • Develop a repeatable networking framework that feels authentic and sustainable
